Once inserted under the skin the threads stimulate the production of both collagen and elastin in the areas they are placed, resulting in a tightening and lifting effect. As the threads dissolve naturally over a period of up to 240 days this collagen and elastin production continues and sagging tissues, lines and wrinkles can be visibly reduced.
Although an immediate improvement may be seen following treatment, within 14 days the body’s natural response to the PDO threads begins and lifting and tightening of the areas treated starts to really take effect which continues for several months following treatment as the threads do their work and disappear.
What happens during treatment ?
Prior to treatment, the face will be thoroughly mapped and areas of concern noted and photographed. Anaesthetic cream will be applied over the areas to be treated and you will be left between 15-30 minutes to ensure this has taken effect, sometimes anaesthetic is also injected into the skin where the tiny fine needles are introduced. Once the areas are numb, the hair fine threads are inserted to ensure the most effective skin tightening and lifting effect. Generally most people find the insertion of the threads a comfortable and practically painless procedure.
After treatment some swelling, discomfort and bruising is to be expected as with any procedure involving needles and skin puncture. You are advised not to wear any make-up for at least 24 hours following thread lifting and strenuous exercise for at least 48 hours. Facial treatments/massages etc should be avoided for at least the following 14 days to allow any swelling or bruising to disappear. In some cases dependent, on your medical history, a short course of antibiotics may be prescribed.
